Top places to visit this Christmas in Europe
Santa Monica Polo Club prides itself on having shops all across the world, with some of our favourite customers from Europe. With Christmas around the corner, it seems more than appropriate to tell our customers and readers about the different places in Europe to visit this Christmas to get into the festive spirit!
London, United Kingdom
One of the most popular places to visit in Europe is none other than the UK’s capital of London. You’ll find plenty of things to do at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. With a large ice skating rink, food and drink stalls and over 100 rides, there’s fun for the whole family. If outdoor crowds are not for you and you’d prefer to be indoors, you’ll be spoiled for choice at London’s West End where there are plenty of Christmas themed concerts and plays to see such as ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘The Nutcracker’. Additionally, there are an array of shops to buy your loved ones presents in and around London. The most popular places to shop, albeit slightly expensive, is that of the shops along Oxford Street, Harrods and Selfridges. For more independent shops, you can also visit Carnaby Street and Covent Garden.
No matter where you go in London this Christmas, you’ll be sure to see so many beautiful lights and festive Christmas trees and decorations.

Prague, Czech Republic
If you head on over to central Europe, you’ll come across the Czech Republic; a country infamous for its beauty and grandeur. You’ll be especially surrounded by stunning architecture as you walk through the streets of Prague, known for being the capital of Czech Republic.
Old Town Square is probably the biggest and most well known Christmas market. Here you can enjoy delicious food, wine and other festive activities for the whole family. For our religious readers, Prague has an array of nativity statues found near churches and castles. One particular beautiful nativity scene which has been known to catch tourists’ eyes is displayed at Charles Bridge Museum. Nativity scenes are usually complimented with a number of outdoor shows that you may be able to see in passing. Of course, if you wanted to get out of the city for the day, there are always tour buses and river cruises you could catch so you could immerse yourself in the general beauty and quaintness of the city.

Leipzig, Germany
A country which is known for some of the best Christmas markets in Europe is Germany. With many claiming that they’ve stepped into a fairy-tale, Germany is home to many cities who open up their Christmas markets and attractions to the world.
Leipzig, for example, is a city which offers 250 market stalls. Both adults and children alike will enjoy spending the day walking around the markets and trying out traditional food and drink such as pulsnitz gingerbread, schnitzel and mulled wine. If you wanted to get out of the cold weather, there is equally Christmassy things to do in the Zentrium, which is known as the city centre. This takes on a carnival theme where you’ll be able to shop and sit down in many of their cafes whilst admiring the music, smells and sights of the beautiful decorations around you.

Amsterdam, Netherlands
If you’re still stuck for ideas on where to spend your Christmas this year, why not place a pin on Amsterdam. Known for being a huge tourist destination year round, Amsterdam is particularly picturesque during the winter time. Whilst usually museums and attractions can sometimes be closed in other European countries, Amsterdam opens these doors for the public so that their culture can be shared amongst locals and tourists alike. In addition, Amsterdam is known for their many canals, which often freeze due to the cold weather. This is great news for children, who can sometimes be seen ice skating in certain areas. And when the lights go down in Amsterdam, this usually means there are light shows to watch. The Amsterdam Light Festival is annual and is known for its light artwork exhibitions and vivid colours.
The favoured transport for most Dutch locals is either walking or bike riding. So why not rent a bike, cycle in the snow and take in the gorgeous sights that Amsterdam has to offer!

Lapland, Finland
Of course, Christmas would not be complete without Father Christmas himself. The last place on this last we highly recommend you visit is Lapland in Finland. As soon as you step onto the snow, it will seem as if you stepped into a winter dreamland. Mountains, Christmas trees and houses can be found covered in snow with people enjoying views from their very own homes.
This is the perfect place if people want more to do than walk around Christmas markets. Be whisked away to Rovaniemi where you can enjoy so many winter activities, including unforgettable reindeer and husky rides and not to mention witnessing the breath-taking northern lights tours. What better place to be then in Santa’s home, with Santa living only 8km away. Experiences like these can only be done in Lapland!
